Meet Andrea

How long have you lived in the Bay Area?

My whole life!

How did you learn about Save Mount Diablo?

Through friends who have also volunteered their time, and activities and volunteer events that Save Mount Diablo hosts for the public.

When did you start volunteering with us, and why did you get involved?

In 2021. Volunteering my time to Save Mount Diablo was something I felt like I could really get behind. I’m grateful to feel like I can be part of the preservation.

Which Save Mount Diablo programs are you involved in?

I participate in DiRT days, cleanups, and other various stewardship efforts, and I am a Discover Diablo hike and bike volunteer and yearly BioBlitz participant.

I also donate my handmade ceramic art to the Moonlight on the Mountain fundraising event.

What do you enjoy about the volunteer work you do?

It feels very rewarding giving my time to help promote and support the missions in place by Save Mount Diablo.

I enjoy the Diablo Range and everything it has to offer, including the solitude that I find when hiking and biking, the exciting rare endemic wildflower sightings as well as the BioBlitz flora that continues to pop-up year after year, and all the amazing wildlife to name a few things.

I hope to help spread the word to the public about how important these sacred lands are!

What is the most challenging project you’ve worked on as a Save Mount Diablo volunteer?

I haven’t met my match yet! Well, OK, maybe that one time I swept for a Discover Diablo mountain bike ride and was humbly reminded—what goes down, must first go up!!

Is there a memorable experience you’ve had as a Save Mount Diablo volunteer?

My first ever volunteer event in helping on the watering team at Curry Canyon Ranch. It’s where it all began for me.

How do you spend your time beyond your volunteer work with us?

My primary passion is being outdoors, bathing in nature!

A few of my favorite activities are rock climbing, backpacking, mountain bike and road riding, bird watching, and collecting photos of wildflowers. I’m always thrilled to bring my sweet dogs along with me as well. I am also a registered nurse.
