Save Mount Diablo Protects Almost 154 Critical Open Space Acres on Mount Diablo

In December 2019, Save Mount Diablo and the Concord Mt. Diablo Trail Ride Association (CMDTRA) signed a two-year option agreement, giving Save Mount Diablo time to raise over $1.04 million to permanently protect almost 154 acres of open space on Mount Diablo’s North Peak with a conservation easement. Save Mount Diablo raised the necessary funds. And on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, the parties closed escrow, with Save Mount Diablo successfully purchasing the conservation easement and thereby forever protecting this highly strategic land.

Half a Century of Preserving Land: Save Mount Diablo’s 50th Anniversary

Save Mount Diablo’s 50th anniversary is on December 7, 2021. We will be celebrating this very special anniversary from December 7, 2021 to December 7, 2022, with memorable events and activities throughout the year.

We’ll offer 50th anniversary hikes and outings, and we’ll invite our communities to a fabulous 50th anniversary celebration in September of 2022. Our 50th anniversary logo is based on one of Save Mount Diablo’s earliest artistic renderings from the early 1970s; it captures the spirit of the time, and honors the past while inspiring the future.

On Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, Attend the 58th “Eye of Diablo” Beacon Lighting Ceremony

On December 7th, Mount Diablo’s Beacon will be relit by survivors of Pearl Harbor.

This event is co-sponsored by Save Mount Diablo; California State Parks; California State University, East Bay Concord Campus; and the Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors, Chapter 5. We invite you to attend the ceremony to pay tribute to the lives that were lost and honor our surviving veterans of Pearl Harbor.

Weather permitting, the ceremony will be held outdoors at the California State University, East Bay Concord Campus, at 4700 Ygnacio Valley Road in Concord. The California State University system requires all campus visitors to be vaccinated or have a valid exemption.

Viewing of the new USS Arizona exhibit at the CSUEB Concord Campus will be available from 3:00 PM to 3:45 PM as well as 45 minutes post ceremony.

The outdoor ceremony will commence at 3:45 PM.
