Interested in joining us as a volunteer? We have a need for some dedicated docents at our newly opened Mangini Ranch Educational Preserve.

We opened the preserve to the public groups at the end of March. So far, we’ve seen lots of groups come to visit.

A group of homeschoolers and another group of 30 hikers also visited. An alumni group from UC Berkeley and a group of birders will be coming to enjoy nature at the preserve soon.
Our docents make a massive impact on the community because they are enabling people to connect to nature in a beautiful and private setting. While a group is at the preserve, they are the only people there.
Lots of people have expressed a lot of interest in their group visiting the Mangini Ranch Educational Preserve, and right now our staff and existing docents can’t fulfill all of the requests.
We’ve gotten more docents in the last few weeks, but we still need several more people to help! We offer annual docent trainings at the preserve. An optional hike is included.
Groups need to be at least three people, and are limited to no more than 100 people. The preserve is open for day use only (no camping).
Save Mount Diablo’s Mangini Ranch Educational Preserve is available for reservations free of charge to a variety of local schools and community groups, of all ages and backgrounds, pursuing educational purposes. Examples include, but are not limited to, the following:
- environmental science classes
- nature photography courses
- yoga classes
- plein-air artists gatherings
- addiction recovery groups
- acoustic music in nature ensembles
- meditation classes
- grief counseling support groups
- church groups
- homeowners association groups
- hiking, trail running, and mountain bike clubs
Docents open and close locked gates for groups, and might lead a hike for the group if the group would like a hike leader and the docent is willing.
