Beat the Heat and Hike the Suburban Interface in Walnut Creek Open Space

July 8, 2023 @ 7:00 am - 9:00 am

Free
All Discover Diablo hikes are subject to, and will honor, all applicable COVID-19–related restrictions in place for our area.

We’ll get an early start at Howe-Homestead Park, the little gem of a park in Walnut Creek, and follow the Kovar Trail into Shell Ridge Open Space, where we’ll watch the morning become day. The hike transitions from a narrow green corridor in the suburbs to the expanses of Mt Diablo foothills. This lollipop hike is about three miles long with mostly gentle grades.

Parking and bathrooms are available at Howe-Homestead.

Be sure to bring a mask, plenty of water and a snack, and dress in layers. Sturdy shoes or hiking boots are recommended. Heavy rain cancels.

Participants will be required to accept our COVID-19 Protocol (available during registration).

This event is limited to 30 participants.
