Mitchell Canyon Medicinal Herb Walk

April 2, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Free
All Discover Diablo hikes are subject to, and will honor, all applicable COVID-19–related restrictions in place for our area.

Join us for a meander around the base of Mount Diablo to explore the medicinal plants growing along the trails at Mitchell Canyon. We will talk about the modern-day uses of the plants we see and discover some of the diversity that this abundant ecosystem holds. The walk will begin in the native plant garden at the Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center, where we will start our journey into the world of local medicinal herbs and their wonder/magic.

***There will be a $6 park entrance fee  (exact change; iron ranger/no attendant)

Be sure to bring a mask, plenty of water, a snack, and dress in layers. Sturdy shoes or hiking boots are recommended. Heavy rain cancels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are dogs allowed on Discover Diablo hikes?

No. Some Discover Diablo hikes take place on land owned by other organizations (such as Mount Diablo State Park & East Bay Regional Park lands) and many of the trails on these properties have a strict no-dog policy.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Anyone under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No. On the hike day, we will have a roster with your registration information on it. Please make sure to check in with the hike leader.

Can I update my registration information?

Yes. If you would like to change anything, please contact Denise Castro at dcastro@savemountdiablo.org.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

You can reach Denise Castro, Outreach & Education Associate, at dcastro@savemountdiablo.org.

Is there a charge for these hikes?

The hikes are free. Some hikes are in a park with an entrance fee, which you can pay with cash or check. If you pay cash, you may need exact change.

What should I wear?

We recommend long pants, sunscreen, and a hat. Dress in layers. Running shoes are OK. For strenuous hikes, we suggest sturdy hiking boots.

What should I bring to these hikes?

Bring a bottle of water, snacks, and sunscreen. A hat is highly recommended. For hikes that are in a park with an entrance fee, bring exact change or a check (sometimes the park entrance does not have an attendant, or the attendant does not have change).

What conditions mean the hike will be canceled?

We will cancel the hike if there is heavy wind or rain, extreme heat, fire, or any red flag warnings.
