40th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day at Balcerzak Inholding
Project: Each year, volunteers gather at creeks, rivers, beaches, drainages and all types of waterways around California to clean up trash and protect precious natural spaces. In 2020, more than 20,000 volunteers picked up more than 900,000 pounds of trash from beaches and waterways throughout the state.
This year we are continuing our beautification efforts at the Balcerzak Inholding. At our site, activities will include walking on flat and uneven terrain to remove trash and debris from the property and keep track of the type of trash we clean up along the way. Volunteers will meet at Curry Canyon Ranch and then Save Mount Diablo staff will drive volunteers up to the work site. We cannot accommodate more than 14 volunteers for this workday.
Meet: Save Mount Diablo’s Curry Canyon Ranch – 3500 Curry Canyon Rd, Clayton, CA
Directions: From Ygnacio Valley Road, take a right onto Clayton Road, which becomes Marsh Creek Road. Follow Marsh Creek Road, then take a right onto Morgan Territory Road. Take a final right on Curry Canyon Road and go about 1.7 miles to 3500 Curry Canyon Road.
Note: Google Maps may tell you to make a U-turn once you are on Curry Canyon Road. Please ignore this and keep following the main road, you are going the correct way! Curry Canyon Road will also become a gravel road when you are almost to the property, do not be discouraged, you are still going the correct way. Lastly, there are many Private Property and No Trespassing Signs along the road, do not fret, as long as you stay on the main road you are still going the correct way.
What to Bring: Water bottle and snacks. Sturdy closed-toed shoes, comfy work clothes with long pants, weather protection (i.e. hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), work gloves if you have them (we also have extras). Please be prepared to walk through tall dry grass. All other tools and materials will be provided. In the summertime, please be prepared to walk through tall grass.
Participants will be notified in the event of cancellation due to extreme weather conditions. An AQI (Air Quality Index) of 150 or above automatically cancels the workday.
