The recent passing of Manfred Lindner in March 2023 marked the end of an era for the preservation of natural spaces in the East Bay.
Lindner’s legacy is deeply intertwined with the creation and development of Morgan Territory Regional Preserve and other significant contributions to the preservation of parks in Contra Costa County.
Seth Adams, Save Mount Diablo’s Land Conservation Director, highlighted Lindner’s invaluable contributions in fostering these preserves.
“He was the hero in creating Las Trampas, and Morgan Territory Regional Preserves, and was president of the Contra Costa Park Council, which preceded the creation of Save Mount Diablo, and for which their greatest achievement was the expansion of East Bay Regional Park District into Contra Costa County,” said Adams.
Former Park District Board member Beverly Lane emphasized Lindner’s deep-rooted love for Las Trampas.
“He was a wonderful man, avid hiker, Park District advocate and active in San Ramon Valley politics,” said Lane.
Former East Bay Regional Park District General Manager Robert E. Doyle wishes there were more like him today.
More on the story of Lindner’s great passion for the outdoors is covered in the Audible Mount Diablo’s Portraits of People series. The section about Manfred Lindner begins at the 2:04-minute mark.
