The Mountain Star Award recognizes individuals and organizations whose contributions have been significant in helping Save Mount Diablo achieve its mission “to forever preserve the remaining natural lands on and around Mount Diablo, and to connect Mount Diablo to the rest of the Diablo Range.”
Criteria for nomination include efforts that support the preservation of Mount Diablo and the Diablo Range while enhancing the quality of life in the surrounding communities.
These include, but are not limited to, leadership, restoration, stewardship, education, legislative, research, and interpretive activities.
This Year’s Winner
Jim Felton 2026
Jim Felton has been a supporter of Save Mount Diablo for decades. He became President of the Board of Directors in April of 2020.
During his years as Board President, Save Mount Diablo has realized immense growth. He helped the organization flourish during the very difficult first couple of years of the COVID-19 pandemic when other organizations and companies laid off employees or went out of business.
During Jim’s tenure, the organization’s budget and financial resources grew immensely along with the size of the staff, the Board, our donors, and programmatic efforts.
Also, the scope of Save Mount Diablo grew from two counties to 12, covering the entirety of the Diablo Range. Save Mount Diablo’s education efforts also grew substantially.
While serving as Board President, Jim continued to volunteer as a property monitor at Save Mount Diablo’s Marsh Creek 1 and 7 properties.
Jim and his wife Bette also host or support many other events for Save Mount Diablo: special donor events at the Felton home, Moonlight on the Mountain auction dinners at the Felton home, and breakfast for Four Days Diablo.
Jim Felton’s term expired in March, 2026, and we thank him for his great service.
