ABOUT MOONLIGHT ON THE MOUNTAIN
On September 6, 2025, Save Mount Diablo is hosting its 24th annual Moonlight on the Mountain, a dramatic outdoor event beneath the stars, held in Mount Diablo State Park along Mount Diablo’s stunning China Wall.
Guests are transported up the mountain’s slopes, where they are treated to an elegant three-course meal, live music, dancing beneath the stars, and both live and silent cocktail auctions—all while surrounded by the unparalleled, majestic views Mount Diablo has to offer. Moonlight on the Mountain typically sells out, drawing a crowd of more than 500 individuals, including elected officials and conservation-minded corporate partners and local businesses.
The event benefits Save Mount Diablo by helping to raise essential funds that will allow it to continue mission-critical work: to preserve, defend, and restore the wild, natural landscapes and wildlife habitat at risk of development, right here in our backyard—for the public and future generations to enjoy.
How It All Started
2002
The first Moonlight on the Mountain was held at China Wall within Mount Diablo State Park in 2002, in the same location where it continues to be held today. It was a relaxing, intimate evening and was attended by just 120 people. Guests enjoyed a four-course meal and wine around their dining tables, illuminated only by battery lanterns and the light of the full moon. The dinner was accompanied by an acoustic string quartet ensemble. It was quite the undertaking for a small staff and group of volunteers to arrange everything, from planning the event to working the setup and breakdown of the affair. All in all, the first Moonlight gathering was a great success and inspired us to continue to grow.
Now
Today we have a much larger staff and hundreds of volunteers, and the event has grown to support more than 500 attendees. Moonlight on the Mountain is a unique opportunity to celebrate this land, connect people to our work, and raise the critical funds needed to protect these irreplaceable wild lands. We hope you will join us next time!
