Meet Lisa
How long have you lived in the Bay Area?
Forty years.
How did you learn about Save Mount Diablo?
Through my significant other, Matt Humphreys.
When did you start volunteering with us, and why did you get involved?
I reached out to Shannon Grover in September 2025 (obtained her contact information from Save Mount Diablo’s website) to inquire about volunteer opportunities with Save Mount Diablo.
I had recently retired and was interested in pursuing some volunteer work with an organization whose mission is meaningful to me.
Which Save Mount Diablo programs are you involved in?
I have primarily assisted with administrative projects that have utilized my background and skills as a certified public accountant, including an analysis of the Moonlight on the Mountain silent auction bid results and assisting with an update to a state charitable registration and reporting summary.
I was invited to become a member of the Save Mount Diablo Audit Committee in November 2025, and as part of the committee, I participated in reviewing the annual audited financial statements and exempt organization tax returns.
I have also helped with the setup at a couple of Save Mount Diablo events at the Lafayette Library.
What do you enjoy about the volunteer work you do?
It has been enjoyable using some of my career skills in a volunteer capacity for an organization whose work I admire greatly. Additionally, the staff at Save Mount Diablo along with the many seasoned volunteers have been very friendly and welcoming.
What is the most challenging project you’ve worked on as a Save Mount Diablo volunteer?
The project to assist with an update of a state charitable registration and reporting summary was challenging.
There isn’t a high degree of uniformity across the 50 states and Washington, DC regarding registration and reporting requirements, so researching and documenting each state’s requirements was a bit daunting.
I did feel a sense of accomplishment when I reached the finish line—it felt good to dust off the research skills and dig in.
Is there a memorable experience you’ve had as a Save Mount Diablo volunteer?
I assisted with the setup at Save Mount Diablo’s Executive Speaker Series event, Through the Lens: Honoring and Admiring Eagles with Sean Burke in October 2025 at the Lafayette Library. There, I was able to watch Sean’s presentation, which was amazing!
How do you spend your time beyond your volunteer work with us?
Now fully retired, I practice yoga most days at a wonderful studio in Walnut Creek. I also enjoy activities that take me outside, including hiking, bicycling, and gardening.
Prior to retirement, I was an audit principal with CliftonLarsenAllen LLP through 2021. I then served as interim Chief Financial Officer for one of my clients through March 2024.
