Meet Jim
How long have you lived in the Bay Area?
Forty years.
How did you learn about Save Mount Diablo?
Through the media and word of mouth from several people.
When did you start volunteering with us and why did you get involved?
January 2025. I am passionate about nature and conservation. Like the people who inspired me when I was young, I very much enjoy introducing people to nature and inspiring them to respect it, take care of it, and ensure it remains unspoiled for wildlife and future generations to enjoy it.
Which Save Mount Diablo programs are you involved in?
What do you enjoy about the volunteer work you do?
First of all, I enjoy any excuse to be on the trails! I enjoy meeting people, sharing knowledge, and helping make their experience more enjoyable.
How do you spend your time beyond your volunteer work with us?
I’m a lifelong hiker/backpacker and love the wilderness. I currently volunteer with East Bay Regional Parks as a docent educator, where I teach school programs on habitats and local wildlife and assist naturalists with public programs.
I also volunteer at Lindsay Wildlife Experience, formerly as a wildlife educator and currently build/repair wildlife rehabilitation enclosures.
While attending university, I worked for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) as a firefighter/EMT and developed a deep interest in fire ecology. I retired in 2022 from the software industry.
