He bequeathed his images to the Oakland Museum of California for use to educate others about environmental preservation and restoration. In 2007, After the Storm: Bob Walker and the East Bay Regional Park District was released by Wilderness Press. The stunning pictorial, written by local author and documentary filmmaker Chris Beaver, contains a rare collection of some of Bob Walker's most beautiful and captivating images of parklands in the East Bay Regional Park District. Those images and others from the Walker slide collection now archived at the Oakland Museum of California are included in this new exhibit. Titled "In Our Own Backyard: A Celebration of East Bay Regional Parks," the exhibit has been curated by Chris Beaver. It will Provide a virtual tour through the Regional Parks' varied habitats, following the flow of creeks from Mt. | September 7th, Sunday, 9:00 am Family Day Hike - Pine Canyon Loop (Save Mount Diablo) Leader: Sharon Walters (925) 451-2891 (cell) HYPERLINK "mailto:swalters@stmarys-ca.edu"swalters@stmarys-ca.edu Meet at MP #9 Mount Diablo State Park - Macedo Ranch Staging Area, north end of Green Valley Rd., Alamo.($3.00 parking fee required) Save Mount Diablo's next monthly family hike will be next Sunday, September 7th at 9a. Save Mount Diablo board member, and long-time hiking enthusiast and local trails expert, Sharon Walters will lead the hike. We'll meet at the Macedo Ranch Staging Area at the north end of Green Valley Road in Alamo. To get there, drive(or walk or bike) to latitude/longitude 37.862678, -121.978744 which you can plug into Google or Yahoo! maps for more-specific directions. Plenty of parking is available for a $3 per car fee which you must place in an envelope in the kiosk near the bathrooms. The hike will take you down into Pine Canyon to Pine Pond where many different species of bird and other wildlife are commonly found. While there are always a few hills, the trail and pace will be appropriate for kids of all ages. You should be prepared to carry children 3 years and younger. Poison oak, rattlesnakes and ticks are common hazards to be aware of, with poison oak being the most common. The hike will cover roughly 2-4 miles (in about 1 to 1 1/2 hours) depending on the age range of the kids. Bring at least 16-32oz. of water per hiker and lots of yummy, healthy snacks which usually help motivate the kids. | Wednesday, September 24, 7:30 p.m. Fighting the Good Fight: The Native Plant Conservation Program of the East Bay Chapter of the California Native Plant Society Speaker: Lech Naumovich Location: Garden Room, Orinda Public Library Orinda Public Library at 24 Orinda Way in Orinda Lech Naumovich will talk about a few of the many East Bay CNPS conservation battles that have been anything but simple, and his stories will be accompanied by his photographs of some of the rarest and most beautiful places in the East Bay. Lech has served as CNPS’s East Bay conservation analyst since 2005. He is also the founding director of Golden Hour Restoration Institute East Bay CNPS membership meetings are free of charge and open to everyone. This month’s meeting takes place in the Garden Room of the Orinda Public Library on the second floor of the building, accessible by stairs or an elevator.
